For Waypoint Release 14, we’ve been working on an account manger tab and we’ve been improving the user experience of some items, including the reports.
Account Manager Tab – Quite some effort has been put into the development of a new Account Manager Module, allowing people to use and manage Waypoint for a number of different companies. This is particularly useful for consultants who introduce Waypoint with several of their clients and who therefor need to work on different accounts, using the same login. Or for freelancers who work on projects in different companies. Or for companies which wish to keep different of their business units separate. Security is critical in this feature. We’ve made sure that all users have access to only their own data.
User Experience – For some items we’ve been improving the User Experience. It’s now possible to close an Iteration directly from the Iteration Plan Tab.
Reports – As for the reports, we’ve completely redone them. The main advantage is that you’ll find most of your reports on one subtab now: The Report subtab on the Planboard. Here you’ll find a Release Burndown Chart, a Theme Completion Report, an Hour Availability Report, a Gantt chart (for your Releases), an Hour Availability Breakdown and an Iteration Breakdown Chart.
The Release Burndown Chart allows to review the Burndown of Story Points in your Release. This is the key report in Lean & Agile Project Management. It shows if your planning is even, so all iterations have approximately the same burden. It also shows if your current velocity is enough to complete before the deadline. So, it tells you to take countermeasures really early.
The Theme Completion Report shows how much you’re advancing on the completion of entire Themes, which are due for your current Release. By default you’ll only see the most active Themes and some summary reports, such as Themes Untouched, Themes in Progress, Themes Finished and Total Progress. It’s possible to open the report and to get a full view of the completion of all Themes.
The Hour Availability Report shows a bar for your total budget of available hours, and the amount of hours actually used or burned. This bars allows you to get a good feeling for still being on track.
But for many, the best news may be that Waypoint now also sports a Gantt chart, showing the spread of releases through a time frame. This is what many like to see to get a feeling for the project.
With all these reports on one single page, project managers or team leads can just display this tab on the wall or on a screen and go through the critical issues of the project. All Team Members and Stakeholders will easily understand what’s going on. We’re planning for a pdf / print version of this report tab, so you may even send or mail this to someone else.
